A modern-day story about finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs

Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landowner, at least one involved in the oil industry, acts as an intermediary between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and enter into contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (man camps), oversee the assembly of excavation equipment, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, troubleshooters, problem solvers, and facilitators. It’s a formulaic TV series, but written by a screenwriter who will be remembered in a few decades, as Norman Lear is today. The difference here seems to be geography.

Oil industry accuracy issues?

It’s another niche Western show whose great marketing is combined with good performances from high-profile actors. Seemingly. Inadequacy regarding mother-daughter-father family dynamics? Yes.

Larter is at his best and looks phenomenal

Does that mean this doesn’t all play out the same way in real life? Regardless, it’s a dynamic production and fun to watch. Thornton is destined for the role, although I read it was written just for him from the start. Lots of interesting stuff, except the only oddity is that Demi Moore appears in all 10 episodes.

If not, I wonder what’s going on there

I’ve seen all five shows that have aired so far and if it’s not just me, I can only remember seeing and hearing her once for a brief moment in her pool. Hamm’s character isn’t seen that often either, but he’s well acted and he does it very well, but Moore just hasn’t been allowed to add anything so far. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll play a role in later episodes.
