Entering into a mysterious relationship with her dead best friend in the army, a female Afghanistan veteran comes face to face with her Vietnam veteran grandfather at the family’s lakeside home. Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris previously starred together in the film “Goodbye, Baby, Goodbye” (2007).
The intrigue was outstanding, not exaggerated and very impressive, carefully calculated to make us wait for “that moment”
Each character is played perfectly, the actor reflects a part of himself in his image – his heart is where he needs to be in order to make his good and bad choices reasonable and understandable. What unites this film is its universal appeal to human problems – internal and external – with which many (including me) have to deal.
The way the script captures the attributes of paralyzing guilt and obsessive thinking is simply brilliant
revelations. Zoe, in particular, torments Merritt, pulling her strings like a puppet, preventing Merritt from dealing with emotional wounds.
A good comparison, since the film reminds Pinocchio and his “conscientious” friend Jiminy Cricket
Finally, as a final thought, Ed Harris convinced me to rethink my recycling habits. Hell, he was as good as ever, and as for Morgan Freeman, he wouldn’t give in if his life depended on it.
